Ring Size Guide

The Ring Size Guide can help you determine the size of a ring that is already being worn on the same finger. Simply print out the Guide and start trying the ring on each circle until you find the one that fits perfectly on the inner side of the ring.

Finding the perfect ring – whether for yourself, an engagement, or a gift – starts with knowing the correct size. A ring that doesn't fit isn't just uncomfortable; it can easily get lost or damaged. Eliminate the guesswork with our comprehensive ring size guide. We'll show you how to measure ring size accurately using simple methods you can do right at home.

The best way to measure your ring size is to visit a jeweler. However, if that’s not possible, use our downloadable ring size chart to measure at home.

How to Use Your Printable Ring Size Chart & Sizer

Our online ring size chart includes two reliable tools: a paper ring sizer and a circular chart for measuring existing rings. Before you start, it is crucial to ensure that your printout is accurate.

Step 1: Printing Your Ring Size Guide Accurately

For an accurate US ring size measurement, follow these printing instructions precisely:

  1. Download our ring sizer PDF.
  2. Open the downloaded PDF file and access your printer settings. (File > Print)
  3. Important: In the settings, look for options like "Page Scaling," "Fit to Page," or "Scale." Ensure these are set to "None" or "100%" or "Actual Size". By default your computer will want to shrink the image or fit it to the page, but doing so will cause the guide to be inaccurate.
  4. Print the guide.
  5. Confirm Print Accuracy: Use a ruler to measure the "2 in" and "50 mm" reference lines printed on the guide. If they do not measure exactly 2 inches and 50 millimeters respectively, your ring sizer and chart will not be accurate. Adjust your print settings and try again

Step 2: Choose Your Measurement Method

Once printed correctly, use one of these methods from the ring size guide:

Option 1: Using the Linear Paper Ring Sizer

  1. Prep: Strengthen the paper ring sizer by placing clear tape over the printed tool before cutting.
  2. Cut: Carefully cut out the linear sizer.
  3. Make the Slot: Use a craft knife or razor to carefully cut the slit marked "Make cut here".
  4. Assemble: Insert the pointed end of the sizer through the slit, ensuring the numbers face outward, forming a loop.
  5. Measure Finger: Slide it onto your finger and tighten until snug (not tight).
  6. Slide the paper loop onto the finger you intend to wear the ring on.

Gently pull the tab until the sizer is snug but not tight. It should fit comfortably around the widest part of your finger (this might be the knuckle).

Ensure the paper ring sizer can slide back over your knuckle with minimal resistance. If it's a struggle, the size is too small.

Read the number that lines up exactly with the edge of the slit – this is your US ring size. If it is in between sizes, opt for the larger number as this will make sure the ring can go over the knuckle more easily.

Option 2: Using the Circular Ring Size Chart (Requires an Existing Ring)

Have a ring that already fits the intended finger perfectly? This is a quick way to find the ring size.

  1. Select the ring that fits the correct finger well.
  2. Place this ring directly over the circles on your printed ring size chart.
  3. Identify the circle whose outline is entirely visible just inside the ring. The edge of the printed circle should touch the inner edge of your ring without being covered by it.
  4. The US ring size label corresponding to that matching circle is your size.
  5. Between Sizes? If your ring seems to fall between two circle sizes, it's usually best to choose the larger size for comfort.

Tips for Accurate Ring Size Measurement

Getting the measurement right is key! Keep these tips in mind when you measure your ring finger:

  • Temperature Matters: Fingers swell in warmth and shrink in cold. Measure your ring size when your hands are comfortably warm, ideally towards the end of the day when fingers are typically largest.
  • Knuckle Check: Always ensure the measured size can slide over the knuckle without force.
  • Multiple Measurements: Measure your ring size 2-3 times on different days or times to confirm consistency.
  • Band Width Consideration: Wider ring bands (typically 5mm or more) fit more snugly. You might need to go up a quarter or half size compared to a narrow band.
  • Dominant Hand: Your dominant hand might be slightly larger. Measure the specific finger on the specific hand where the ring will be worn.

Need to Measure Discreetly? Tips for Finding an Engagement Ring Size

Trying to find an engagement ring size secretly? It's tricky, but here are a few methods:

  • Borrow a Ring: If your partner wears other rings on the correct finger, discreetly borrow one of their existing rings. Use Option 2 (Circular Ring Size Chart) from our printable ring size chart or take it to a jeweler. Ensure it's worn on the correct finger, even different hands can have differences in sizing!
  • Trace a Ring: If you can't borrow it, quickly trace the inside circumference of a ring they wear on the right finger onto a piece of paper. It will give you a ballpark, and a jeweler might be able to estimate the size from an accurate tracing.
  • Ask a Friend: Discreetly ask a close friend or family member if they might know their ring size. Choose someone trustworthy to get this information for you.
  • Educated Guess: Make your best guess (perhaps using average sizes below as a very rough starting point). Many engagement rings can be resized, but check the jeweler's policy first. Some materials (like tungsten or eternity bands) cannot be resized easily, if at all.

Disclaimer: Professional sizing is always the most accurate way to determine an engagement ring size. These methods are alternatives for surprise situations.

Average Ring Sizes for Men and Women

While knowing how to measure your ring size accurately is best, sometimes knowing the average can be helpful as a very general guideline:

  • Average Ring Size for Women: The most common US ring size for women is typically between 6 and 7. The average ring size women purchase is Size 7.

  • Average Ring Size for Men: The most common US ring sise for men is between 9 and 11. The average ring size men purchase is 10.

  • Important Note: : These are only averages! Finger sizes vary significantly based on height, weight, and knuckle size. Don't rely solely on averages when buying a ring. Always measure using a reliable method like our ring size guide or visit a professional jeweler.
